Probate Solicitor / Legal Executive

Location: York

Salary: £40,000 to £55,000 plus bonus (dependent on experience)

Experience: 3+ years’ experience in Wills and Probate

 

If you’re a Private Client lawyer who enjoys running your own matters and delivering excellent client care, this is a great opportunity to join a welcoming, well-established team in York. You’ll manage a varied caseload across Wills, Powers of Attorney and Probate, with the support of experienced colleagues and a culture that values collaboration, accuracy and doing the right thing.

 

The Opportunity

This role is ideal for a Probate Solicitor or Legal Executive looking for the next step in a stable, supportive environment. You’ll take ownership of files from initial instruction through to completion, handle new enquiries, and play a key part in maintaining high standards of client care.

  • Run a caseload of private client matters, including Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and estate administration

  • Take initial instructions and progress matters through to conclusion

  • Deal with new client enquiries and provide clear, client-friendly advice

  • Support other fee earners within the probate team as needed

  • Draft costs where appropriate

  • Bill files and ensure monies due are recovered in line with agreed processes

  • Maintain and develop your technical knowledge and skills

 

About You

Essential

  • Qualified solicitor in England and Wales, or Chartered Legal Executive (or equivalent)

  • At least 3 years’ experience handling Wills and Probate matters

  • Strong, professional client care with a friendly and approachable manner

  • Accurate and methodical, with excellent attention to detail

  • Confident written and verbal communication, including drafting legal documents

  • Strong IT skills and willingness to learn new systems quickly

  • Able to organise and prioritise work to meet deadlines and client expectations

  • Comfortable working under pressure when required

  • Able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team

Desirable

  • Flexible, can-do attitude, including occasional travel to nearby offices if required

  • Full UK driving licence
