The Opportunity
As a Senior Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality accounting and taxation services to a diverse client base across various sectors.
You will manage your own portfolio of clients, prepare accounts and tax returns, support junior colleagues, and act as a trusted advisor to businesses and individuals.
This is a predominantly office-based position in Stockport, providing excellent collaboration with colleagues and clients while offering a stable and supportive working environment.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts & Financial Reporting
- Prepare year-end accounts and financial statements for a varied portfolio of clients.
- Produce accurate management accounts where required.
- Review financial information and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards.
- Support clients with bookkeeping and accounting queries.
Tax Compliance & Advisory
- Prepare and review Corporation Tax and Income Tax returns.
- Liaise directly with HMRC regarding client matters and compliance issues.
- Assist clients with general tax planning and compliance requirements.
Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients.
- Respond promptly and professionally to client enquiries.
- Gather, review and analyse client information efficiently.
- Provide proactive support and practical financial guidance.
Team Support & Development
- Mentor and support junior members of the team.
- Assist with technical queries and training where appropriate.
- Contribute to maintaining high service standards across the practice.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess:
Essential Experience
- 3-5 years' UK accountancy practice experience in accounts preparation and tax compliance.
- Proven experience managing a portfolio of clients.
- Experience preparing statutory accounts for sole traders, partnerships and limited companies.
- Strong knowledge of Corporation Tax and Personal Tax compliance.
- Experience liaising directly with clients and HMRC.
Qualifications
- AAT qualified, ACCA part-qualified, ACCA qualified, ACA qualified, or qualified by experience (QBE) will be considered.
- Relevant accounting and taxation knowledge gained within a UK practice environment.
Technical Skills
- Experience using accountancy software such as:
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
