Employment Solicitor (5 to 10 years PQE)
Location: Kendal (hybrid working)
Salary: £65,000 to £90,000 plus bonus and benefits
Experience: 5 to 10 years’ PQE
A senior employment opportunity for a solicitor who enjoys high-quality respondent work, trusted client relationships and a genuinely supportive team around them.
This role offers a varied caseload, regular client contact and the chance to play a visible part in developing work for the team, while also mentoring junior colleagues.
You will join a collaborative Employment and HR team, advising business clients on day-to-day employment and HR matters and supporting on more complex tribunal litigation. The work is largely respondent-focused, with a strong emphasis on practical, commercial advice.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing your own employment caseload, including respondent Employment Tribunal matters through to conclusion
- Advising owners, senior managers and HR teams on a broad range of employment and HR issues
- Drafting and reviewing contracts, policies and handbooks (including senior hires, directors and self-employed individuals)
- Taking instructions, producing clear advice and guidance, and progressing matters efficiently
- Attending hearings where required and liaising with counsel and experts
- Supporting senior fee earners on larger and more complex matters
- Delegating work to, and supervising, junior fee earners where appropriate
- Contributing to business development and identifying new opportunities for the team
- Working closely with colleagues across the wider firm to support cross-referrals and joined-up client service
What We’re Looking For
Essential
- Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales
- 5 to 10 years’ PQE in employment law
- Strong respondent and business client experience (ideally within a commercial law firm environment)
- Confident handling Employment Tribunal litigation and managing matters end-to-end
- Strong drafting skills and attention to detail
- Commercial, pragmatic approach with a client-focused mindset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Able to work independently while contributing positively to a team environment
Desirable
- Experience supporting corporate transactions from an employment perspective
- Business development and marketing activity
- Supervision of junior fee earners
- Delivering training on employment law and HR topics (in person or remotely)
