Job Description

Family Law Senior Associate (4 Days Remote Working)

Location: Leeds

Salary: £55,000 to £75,000 plus bonus and benefits

Experience: 5+ years’ PQE

A genuinely modern opportunity for an experienced family lawyer who wants strong quality work, a clear route to progression, and a working pattern that supports life outside the office.

Our client is a national firm specialising exclusively in private client family law. They have built a model that combines a steady flow of inbound work with high standards of client care, smart systems, and a culture that prioritises development.

You will run your own caseload of private family matters, with the autonomy expected at Senior Associate level and the support you need to keep progressing. The firm operates a buddy system so you can take on work outside your usual comfort zone with guidance, rather than being left to figure it out alone.

This role is also suited to someone who enjoys the commercial side of practice. You will not be expected to generate leads, but you must be confident converting enquiries into instructions and building trust quickly with prospective clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Managing a varied private family caseload from instruction through to conclusion
  • Advising clients clearly and sensitively across a range of family law matters
  • Negotiating and progressing matters efficiently, with a strong focus on outcomes and client care
  • Representing clients where appropriate and working with counsel when needed
  • Converting inbound enquiries into instructions, with a consistent and professional approach
  • Supporting junior colleagues through supervision, mentoring and day-to-day guidance
  • Contributing to team collaboration and knowledge sharing, including on the in-office day
  • Working within a paperless environment, using case management and AI-enabled tools to streamline admin

What We’re Looking For

Essential

  • Qualified Solicitor in England and Wales
  • 5+ years’ PQE (or equivalent) in private family law
  • Proven experience managing your own caseload with strong client care standards
  • Demonstrated ability to convert leads into instructions
  • Confident communicator, able to explain options and next steps in plain English
  • Comfortable working independently, while contributing to a collaborative team culture

Desirable

  • Experience using Leap (or similar) case management systems
  • Interest in mentoring and supporting junior colleagues
  • Commercial mindset and interest in developing long-term client relationships

What’s On Offer

Working Arrangements

  • 4 days working from home as standard
  • 1 day per week in the office for collaboration, social connection and mentorship
  • Flexibility to reduce office attendance to once every two weeks once settled (subject to role and team needs)
  • Part-time options considered (3 to 4 days per week)

Progression and Development

  • Clear progression pathway, with typical progression within 12 to 24 months (performance dependent)
  • Buddy system to support you on matters outside your prior experience and broaden your exposure
  • External coaching provided to develop leadership capability as well as technical strength
  • Ongoing training and support in client conversion and relationship building

Support and Infrastructure

  • No requirement to generate leads, with a strong pipeline driven by the firm’s reputation
  • Compliance support available to help you focus on client delivery
  • Investment in Leap and AI-enabled tools to support case management and reduce admin burden
  • Fully paperless working environment
