Location: York

Salary: £42,000 – £52,000+ DOE

Are you a senior audit professional or newly promoted assistant manager looking to take full ownership of complex External Financial Reporting (EFR) engagements within a well-established, highly respected York practice? Our client is a prominent regional professional services firm celebrated for its technical excellence, supportive team culture, and commitement to structured career progression. Due to continued client acquisition across North Yorkshire, they are seeking an ambitious Audit Assistant Manager to lead dynamic engagement teams, manage a high-profile client portfolio, and work closely alongside firm partners.

The Opportunity

In this key leadership role, you will take operational ownership of audit assignments from initial scoping and risk assessment through to final partner review and completion. Serving as the primary technical contact for a diverse client base—spanning ambitious corporate groups, SMEs, and complex entities—you will manage engagement budgets, supervise on-site fieldwork, and lead completion meetings. Designed for an ACA/ACCA qualified practitioner, this position offers high visibility, scope for structured hybrid working, and a direct pathway toward Audit Manager.

Key Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Qualifications & Experience: ACA or ACCA qualified (or equivalent) with 3+ years’ recent UK practice audit experience, operating at Audit Senior or Assistant Manager level.

  • Technical Mastery: Deep technical proficiency in UK GAAP (FRS 102) and/or IFRS, with a proven track record of managing statutory accounts preparation and complex external financial reporting.

  • Engagement Leadership: End-to-end management of audit assignments, including audit strategy formulation, budget tracking, resource allocation, and quality control file reviews.

  • Team Supervision & Development: Active coaching, mentoring, and line management of junior audit staff, providing constructive feedback and technical guidance.

  • Client & Partner Liaison: Direct management of key client relationships, resolving technical queries, and assisting partners with practice development initiatives and proposals.

Package & Working Structure

  • Competitive Compensation: £42,000 – £52,000 base salary per annum (commensurate with post-qualification experience and technical depth).

  • Agile Working Model: Structured hybrid working options and core hour flexibility to ensure a genuine work-life balance.

  • Professional Development: Tailored leadership training and a defined, merit-based career progression framework toward Senior Manager level.

  • Comprehensive Benefits: Auto-enrolment workplace pension, generous holiday entitlement with option to purchase additional days, Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), and fully funded firm social events.

  • Location & Amenities: Centrally located York offices with modern facilities and convenient access to local transport links.
