Study support and clear progression in practice

If you’re early in your tax career and want a role where you’ll genuinely learn, build confidence, and develop long-term in practice, this is a strong opportunity with our client, a well-established accountancy firm in Sheffield. You’ll join a supportive team, gain hands-on exposure across compliance work, and have a clear pathway to progress as your experience grows.

This position is ideal if you’re looking for stability, structured development, and the chance to build a solid foundation in personal and/or corporate tax within a reputable firm.

The Role: What you’ll be doing

You’ll support the tax team with day-to-day compliance work and client administration, building your technical knowledge as you go.

Typical responsibilities will include:
  • Preparing personal tax returns and supporting associated compliance work
  • Assisting with corporate tax computations (where exposure allows)
  • Gathering information from clients and maintaining accurate records
  • Supporting the team with tax deadlines, workflow tracking, and HMRC correspondence
  • Using tax software to prepare returns and maintain client files
  • Escalating technical queries to senior colleagues and learning through review feedback

What we’re looking for (Experience & skills)

To be considered, you’ll ideally have:
  • 1–2+ years’ UK accountancy practice experience in a tax or mixed accounts/tax role
  • Some hands-on exposure to tax compliance (personal tax is fine as a starting point)
  • A genuine interest in developing a career in tax (personal, corporate, or mixed)
  • Strong attention to detail and confidence working to deadlines
Qualifications (preferred):
  • Studying towards (or open to studying towards) ATT and/or CTA (or equivalent), with support available depending on your current stage
Technical skills:
  • Comfortable with Excel and working with financial information
  • Experience using tax software is helpful (training provided if needed)

Location & Working Arrangement

  • Location: Sheffield
  • Working pattern: Office-based with flexibility/hybrid working available depending on the team and workload (to be discussed)
  • You should be able to commute into Sheffield as required

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: Up to £28,000 (dependent on experience)
