Our client, a respected and growing independent accountancy practice in the Leeds area, is seeking a talented Senior Accountant to join its expanding team. This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with Partners and senior leadership, supporting a diverse portfolio of clients while developing your professional skills within a collaborative and supportive environment.

The Opportunity

As a Senior Accountant, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality accounts and tax services to a varied client portfolio, including owner-managed businesses, SMEs, partnerships, and private individuals.

Working directly with Partners and Senior Managers, you will manage assignments from planning through to completion while also supporting and developing junior team members where appropriate.

 

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Preparation & Financial Reporting

  • Prepare year-end statutory accounts for:
    • Limited companies
    • LLPs
    • Partnerships
    • Sole traders
  • Ensure accounts are prepared accurately and in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
  • Review financial information and identify areas for improvement and client support.
  • Assist with management accounts and other financial reporting assignments where required.

Tax Compliance & Advisory Support

  • Prepare corporation tax computations and returns.
  • Prepare personal tax returns and self-assessment submissions.
  • Support clients with taxation queries and compliance matters.
  • Identify opportunities to provide additional value-added services.

Client Relationship Management

  • Act as a key point of contact for a portfolio of clients.
  • Liaise directly with business owners and stakeholders regarding accounts and tax matters.
  • Build strong, long-term client relationships through excellent service delivery.
  • Respond efficiently to client queries and provide practical commercial advice.

Practice & Project Support

  • Assist Partners and Senior Managers with ad hoc client projects.
  • Delegate work to junior members of the team where appropriate.
  • Support the training and development of junior staff.
  • Contribute to maintaining the high standards and reputation of the practice.

 

About You

Essential Requirements

  • ACA, ACCA, CA or equivalent qualification, or strong Qualified by Experience (QBE) credentials.
  • Minimum 4-6 years' UK accountancy practice experience.
  • Strong background within a general practice environment.
  • Proven experience preparing statutory accounts for a variety of business entities.
  • Experience preparing corporation tax and personal tax returns.
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

Technical Skills

  • Good working knowledge of:
    • FRS 102
    • UK GAAP
    • Corporation Tax
    • Personal Tax / Self Assessment
    • Accounts production processes
  • Experience using accountancy software such as:
    • Xero
    • QuickBooks
    • Sage
    • Iris, CCH, Digita or similar systems
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Audit experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
  • Experience reviewing junior staff work.
  • Exposure to a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses and SMEs.
