Paralegal – Commercial Litigation

Location: Preston

Salary: £24,000 to £30,000 plus bonus and benefits

Experience: Paralegal (law firm / professional services experience preferred)

You’ll get a blend of hands-on support work and junior fee-earning, with clear scope to take on more as you develop.

This is a full-time role within a busy and expanding Commercial Litigation department, based in Preston. You’ll support senior fee earners on a broad range of matters, help keep files moving, and build strong foundations in contentious work. As you gain experience, you’ll have the chance to step up into more complex tasks and higher value work.

 

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Opening and administering files (hard copy and case management), including client care letters, updates, closing and archiving
  • Ensuring file compliance with regulatory standards and internal processes
  • Managing critical dates and supporting fee earners with required actions
  • Billing administration and liaison with the Finance team
  • Preparing case bundles in line with CPR requirements
  • Drafting and issuing correspondence under supervision
  • Attending meetings, taking minutes, and updating attendance notes
  • Drafting documents and assisting with court documentation
  • Managing meetings and logistics for fee earners
  • Handling telephone enquiries and liaising with clients
  • Conducting legal research
  • Liaising with Counsel, the Court and other third parties
  • Supporting new client enquiries and working collaboratively across service lines
  • Preparing legal updates and blog articles
  • Attending court, mediations and meetings, producing detailed notes
  • Building professional relationships with clients, barristers, experts and referrers

 

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working in a law firm or professional environment
  • Comfortable dealing with clients and producing formal correspondence
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing demands
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Confident working independently and as part of a team
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Strong Adobe Acrobat skills, including PDF editing and bundle compilation
  • Experience using LexisNexis, Westlaw or Practical Law
  • Strong academic record (GCSE Maths and English grade C or above)
  • Legal education to undergraduate level or equivalent
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and keen to learn and progress

 

Desirable

  • Experience with SOS or similar case management systems
  • Experience working with central filing systems
  • Familiarity with contentious legal documents (County Court / High Court)
  • Experience preparing court forms and using the Court’s e-filing system
  • Strong legal research capability
  • Financial report production or analysis
