Senior Accountant / Client Manager
Location: Stockport
Salary: £40,000 – £52,000 + Benefits
Are you an experienced practice accountant ready to step into a client-facing manager role, or an established Client Manager seeking a firm that offers genuine autonomy and a supportive culture? Our client is a prominent, well-established accountancy practice with a strong footprint across Greater Manchester and the North West. Operating from their modern Stockport office, they are seeking an ambitious Senior Accountant / Client Manager to lead a varied client portfolio and act as a key driver of department success.
The Opportunity
This role offers an ideal balance of technical oversight, portfolio ownership, and advisory engagement. Taking responsibility for a diverse client base of local owner-managed businesses, SMEs, and corporate entities, you will serve as the primary advisor for financial compliance, tax strategy, and growth planning. Supported by a skilled team of trainees and seniors, you will play a central role in staff development, review processes, and high-touch client delivery within a collaborative, growth-focused practice environment.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements

Qualifications & Experience: ACA/ACCA qualified (or qualified by experience) with 4–6+ years of UK accountancy practice background.

Portfolio Management: Proven track record managing a diverse portfolio, ensuring high-quality delivery of statutory accounts, management accounts, corporation tax, and VAT returns.

Advisory & Relationship Management: Confident acting as the main point of contact for business owners, delivering proactive tax planning, cash flow forecasting, and commercial business advice.

Team Leadership: Experience reviewing work completed by junior colleagues, providing constructive feedback, and assisting with team workflow planning.

Technical Software Skills: Proficiency in cloud accounting software platforms including Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, and IRIS.

Base Salary: £40,000 – £52,000 (negotiable dependent on experience and portfolio background).
