Job Description

Tax Manager

Location: Liverpool

Salary: £50,000 – £62,000+ DOE

Are you a CTA, ACA, or ACCA qualified corporate tax specialist looking for full portfolio ownership, exposure to complex advisory planning, and a clear path toward Senior Manager within a dynamic practice environment? Our client is a leading, multi-office accountancy practice with a strong presence in Liverpool. Known for their forward-thinking client service, high technical standards, and supportive culture, they are seeking a dedicated Tax Manager to lead their corporate tax compliance and advisory offering.

The Opportunity

In this key leadership role, you will manage a corporate tax portfolio comprising dynamic SMEs, regional corporate groups, and entrepreneurial businesses across Merseyside. Working closely with partners and regional practice directors, you will oversee corporate tax compliance, handle HMRC enquiries, and review the work of junior team members. Crucially, this position offers high-visibility involvement in tax planning and advisory projects—including R&D, corporate restructures, and capital allowance reviews, providing an ideal platform for long-term career growth.

Key Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Qualifications & Experience: CTA, ACA, or ACCA qualified (or equivalent) with a minimum of 4–5+ years’ UK practice experience focused on corporate tax compliance and advisory.

  • Technical Mastery: In-depth knowledge of UK tax legislation, corporate tax computations, statutory filings, and handling complex HMRC queries.

  • Advisory & Planning: Proven ability to identify tax planning opportunities and assist with advisory projects (e.g., group restructures, share schemes, and R&D claims).

  • Leadership & Quality Control: Track record of reviewing junior tax work, conducting technical quality checks, and mentoring trainees to support team development.

  • Client Engagement: Excellent communication skills with the confidence to build trusted relationships with client finance directors, business owners, and internal audit/accounts teams.

Package & Benefits

  • Base Salary & Bonus: £50,000 – £62,000 per annum (dependent on experience and qualification stage, aligned with Liverpool/Merseyside practice rates), plus a discretionary performance bonus.

  • Career Development: Structured pathways to Senior Tax Manager and Director level, backed by fully funded ongoing technical CPD.

  • Work-Life Balance: Supported hybrid working model in modern Liverpool office premises with remote flexibility.

  • Health & Perks: Comprehensive healthcare cover, workplace pension scheme, generous annual leave allowance, and employee assistance programmes.
