Senior Accountant

Salary: £38,000–£50,000 DOE 

Location: Manchester (South) / Greater Manchester (Hybrid)

 

Progression to Manager + advisory-focused portfolio

 

If you’re a practice-trained Senior Accountant who wants more than year-end compliance, this is a role where you can own a portfolio, build trusted client relationships, and get involved in commercial, advisory-led work. Our client is a progressive, cloud-focused practice supporting ambitious, growing businesses, and they’re hiring due to continued growth.
 

 

The Opportunity

You’ll be a key point of contact for clients, working closely with leadership to deliver high-quality accounts and tax compliance, while helping drive best practice across the team. There’s a clear route to management level for someone who enjoys taking ownership and mentoring others.
 

Your Role: Portfolio Ownership & Client Advisory

Client Portfolio Management

  • Managing a portfolio of limited companies, sole traders and partnerships
  • Acting as the main point of contact for client queries and relationship management
  • Building long-term relationships and delivering a proactive, commercial service

Accounts & Reporting

  • Preparation and review of statutory accounts
  • Preparation and review of management accounts and reporting packs
  • Supporting process improvements to improve quality and turnaround times

Tax Compliance Oversight

  • Overseeing compliance across:
    • Corporation tax
    • VAT
    • Personal tax (level dependent / where applicable)

Team Support & Review

  • Reviewing work prepared by junior team members and providing guidance
  • Supporting and mentoring semi-senior and junior accountants
  • Contributing to training, standards and best practice across the team

Advisory & Improvement Projects

  • Supporting advisory projects and financial planning work
  • Driving process improvements and helping embed cloud-first ways of working

 

What We’re Looking For

To be considered, you should have:
  • 4+ years’ UK accountancy practice experience (essential)
  • ACCA/ACA qualified or qualified by experience
  • Confidence managing a client portfolio with minimal supervision
  • Strong technical grounding in:
    • Statutory accounts preparation/review
    • Management accounts
    • UK tax compliance (corporation tax and VAT; personal tax beneficial)
  • Experience reviewing work and supporting junior team members
  • Cloud software experience, ideally:
    • Xero (preferred)
    • Familiarity with Dext/AutoEntryQuickBooks or similar (beneficial)
  • Strong communication skills and a proactive, commercial mindset

  • Salary: £38,000–£50,000 (dependent on experience and qualification)
  • Location: Manchester (South) / Greater Manchester
