Job Description
Legal Secretary (Litigation Department)
Location: Altrincham
Salary: £24,000 to £30,000 plus bonus and benefits
Experience: 2+ years’ experience in a law firm (legal secretary / legal assistant)
If you’re a Legal Secretary who enjoys being the calm, organised backbone of a busy litigation team, this is a brilliant opportunity to join a firm that values clear communication, high standards, and people who take pride in doing things properly.
Our client is looking to recruit a Legal Secretary to support their Litigation Department, with wider support across the organisation when needed. You’ll play a pivotal role in keeping the day-to-day admin and secretarial support running smoothly, including dictation, file management, and occasional reception cover.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll work closely with the Office Manager and fee earners, helping the team stay organised, responsive and consistent. You’ll also have the chance to improve processes and reduce reliance on dictation over time, so if you’re someone who likes making things better, you’ll be encouraged to get involved.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Typing solicitors’ audio files and written notes, producing accurate documents to a high standard
- Supporting the Litigation Department and providing wider support to other departments when required
- Managing filing and general secretarial duties to keep matters progressing efficiently
- Taking organisational calls and providing reception cover when needed
- Opening new files using the file opening form and ensuring the process is documented
- Ensuring you receive clear instructions and managing tasks in line with priorities and deadlines
- Supporting the Office Manager with day-to-day coordination of secretarial support
- Helping evolve ways of working to reduce dependency on dictation and improve efficiency
What We’re Looking For
- At least 2 years’ experience in a law firm in a legal secretary or legal assistant role
- Confident handling client calls, listening carefully, and giving clear, professional updates
- Strong dictation and typing skills with excellent attention to detail
- Highly organised, process-driven, and comfortable juggling multiple tasks
- A calm, positive and professional manner that puts people at ease
- Tenacious follow-through and a willingness to chase actions to completion
- Good IT skills, including MS Office, and experience using case management systems
- A collaborative approach and the confidence to work as part of a busy legal team
What’s On Offer
- Employee bonus scheme (up to an additional 10% of salary annually, T&Cs apply)
- Healthcare package including 24/7 GP access, dental and optical contributions, and physiotherapy allowance
- Annual eye tests and annual hearing tests
- Death in service cover (4x salary)
