Job Description

Knowledge Management Lawyer - Commercial

Location: Birmingham

Salary: £75,000 to £95,000

Experience: 3+ years’ PQE

If you’re a Commercial lawyer who enjoys the technical side, likes staying ahead of legal change, and gets a real buzz from helping others do their best work, this is a genuinely interesting opportunity. This is a part-time Knowledge Management role with real influence over how a national Commercial team shares knowledge, develops best practice, and supports clients.

Our client is a national UK law firm with an excellent reputation and client base. They are modern and forward-thinking in their approach to work, with a flexible, hybrid set-up and a strong focus on collaboration and quality.

You’ll support a sizeable Commercial team working across a broad range of non-contentious disciplines, including commercial contracts, franchising, IT, data protection, transport (bus and rail), infrastructure projects, and health and safety regulatory and compliance work. The role sits within an established Knowledge Management function and will be closely integrated with fee earners nationwide.

This is a flexible, part-time position, ideally 3 or 4 days per week.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Horizon scanning and analysis of proposed and new legislation, regulation and legal developments, including input into consultative processes
  • Producing thought leadership content on legal change and its impact (internal and external audiences)
  • Delivering technical training for lawyers and clients, including both new developments and core contracting topics
  • Providing query and research support to fee earners on detailed technical questions
  • Supporting the creation and maintenance of templates, precedents and prompt libraries
  • Capturing and managing valuable work product (clauses, research notes, legal opinions and similar)
  • Embedding agreed best practice into KM resources and processes, with a focus on effective use of legal technology and innovation
  • Supporting business development activity, including lead development and pitch support through KM initiatives

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years’ PQE with expertise in one or more non-contentious commercial areas (for example: commercial contracts, franchising, IT, data protection, transport, infrastructure projects, health and safety regulatory/compliance)
  • Strong drafting skills and the ability to explain technical issues clearly
  • Confidence working with stakeholders across a national team
  • A proactive approach to spotting legal change and turning it into practical guidance
  • Experience of financial services regulation and/or intellectual property is desirable, but not essential

What’s On Offer

  • Part-time working (ideally 3 or 4 days per week)
  • Hybrid and flexible working approach
  • A role with genuine impact across a national Commercial team
  • Supportive KM function and collaborative culture
  • Opportunity to shape best practice, training and knowledge tools in a modern firm

Working Arrangements

  • Part time considered, ideally 3 or 4 days per week, salary will be pro rata.
  • Birmingham-based, with a flexible hybrid approach
