Senior Accountant
Location: Stockport
Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 + DOE/PQE
Are you an experienced Practice Accountant seeking to step into portfolio ownership, mentor junior team members, and accelerate your career within a supportive Stockport firm? Our client is a highly respected, growing accountancy practice known for its collaborative culture and client-first approach. Experiencing sustained expansion across their practice portfolio, they are seeking a commercially minded Senior Accountant (3–5+ years' UK Practice experience) to manage a varied client base, oversee statutory accounts and tax compliance, and progress toward Manager level.
The Opportunity
In this key fee-earning position, you will take direct responsibility for managing a diverse portfolio of sole traders, partnerships, and limited companies across various commercial sectors. Acting as a trusted financial advisor, you will produce year-end financial statements, handle Corporation and Personal Tax compliance, and advise business owners on daily operational queries. Designed for a proactive practice accountant who thrives on client interaction, this role offers high day-to-day autonomy, direct mentoring exposure, and a structured pathway toward Senior Practice Manager.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements

Qualifications & Background: ACCA / ACA Qualified, AAT Qualified, ACCA/ACA Part-Qualified, or Qualified by Experience (QBE) with 3 to 5+ years’ UK accountancy practice experience.

Portfolio & Accounts Production: Proven capability independently managing a client portfolio, preparing statutory accounts, and delivering management accounts and financial statements.

Tax Compliance & HMRC Liaison: Comprehensive experience preparing and reviewing Corporation Tax (CT600) and Personal Tax (SA100) returns, alongside direct liaison with HMRC regarding compliance queries.

Practice Software Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of cloud accounting software and practice management systems, including IRIS, Xero, Sage, FreeAgent, and advanced Microsoft Excel.

Client Care & Team Leadership: Exceptional communication skills with a client-focused approach, combined with an interest in mentoring, reviewing, and guiding junior trainees and assistants.

Competitive Remuneration: £35,000 – £45,000 base salary per annum (commensurate with qualification status, PQE, and practice background) with regular performance reviews.
