Job Description

Audit Senior

Location: York

Salary: £38,000 – £50,000+ DOE

(Full Study/Qualification Support Available)

Are you an experienced Audit Senior or Senior-track professional seeking high-quality engagement leadership, direct partner access, and a clear path to Assistant Manager within a well-established York practice? Our client is a highly respected regional accountancy firm known for its collaborative culture, technical excellence, and dedication to employee career development. Due to ongoing growth across their regional client portfolio, they are seeking an ambitious Audit Senior to lead fieldwork, manage client relationships, and mentor junior trainees.

The Opportunity

In this key operational role, you will take lead responsibility for executing audit assignments end-to-end—from initial planning and risk assessment through to final file completion and partner review. Working across a diverse client base that includes ambitious middle-market businesses, regional groups, and owner-managed entities, you will lead on-site fieldwork, manage engagement deadlines, and serve as a primary client contact. Designed for a qualified or part-qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA) with strong UK practice experience, this position offers high autonomy, structured career development, and direct exposure to firm leadership.

Key Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Qualifications & Experience: ACA/ACCA qualified, finalist, or part-qualified with 2+ years’ recent UK practice audit experience (unqualified candidates with extensive, proven practice audit experience are also encouraged to apply).

  • Technical Mastery: Solid understanding of UK GAAP (FRS 102) and standard audit methodologies, with a track record of producing robust audit programmes and completion files.

  • On-Site Fieldwork Leadership: Proven capability to lead audit assignments on-site, manage testing schedules, and maintain quality control across multiple simultaneous engagements.

  • Team Coaching & Review: Supervising, mentoring, and reviewing the work of junior audit assistants and trainees on-site and in the office.

  • Client Engagement & Mobility: Strong communication skills with the ability to build rapport with client finance teams. A full UK driving licence and access to a car for client site visits are preferred.

Package & Working Structure

  • Competitive Remuneration: £38,000 – £50,000 base salary per annum (commensurate with qualification status, exam progress, and audit leadership depth).

  • Study & Qualification Support: Full financial support, exam leave, and professional subscription coverage for candidates completing ACA/ACCA qualifications.

  • Agile Working Options: Office-based in York with flexible core hours and hybrid options available depending on assignment scheduling and client needs.

  • Career Development: Clear, transparent criteria for progression toward Assistant Manager and Manager level within the firm.

  • Health & Benefits: Auto-enrolment pension scheme, generous holiday allowance, Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), and team social events.
