Job Description

Court of Protection Solicitor (Health & Welfare)

Salary: £35,000–£75,000 + Hybrid Working

Location: London | High-quality H&W caseload with real progression

If you’re a Court of Protection solicitor who wants proper client work, a supportive team, and the chance to build a long-term specialism in Health & Welfare, this is a standout opportunity. Our client is a well-established London law firm with a strong reputation for sensitive, high-standard work for vulnerable clients and their families, and they’re looking to strengthen their Court of Protection offering with an additional hire.

You’ll join a team that takes pride in doing things the right way: clear advice, excellent drafting, calm case management, and genuine care for clients at difficult points in their lives.

The Role: Court of Protection (Health & Welfare)

You’ll manage a varied Court of Protection caseload, with a focus on Health & Welfare matters, and play a key role in progressing files efficiently and compliantly.

Typical work will include:
  • Mental Capacity Act 2005 applications including s.16s.21A, and deputyship matters
  • Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) challenges
  • Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA) and Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPA) matters
  • Drafting and preparing applications, witness statements, and supporting court documents
  • Liaising with key stakeholders including the Official Solicitormedical professionalssocial services, and family members
  • Attending hearings, mediations, and client meetings as required

Team & Department Contribution

This role suits someone who enjoys being part of a team and contributing beyond their own files.
You’ll also be involved in:
  • Supervising and supporting paralegals, trainees, and junior colleagues (where appropriate to level)
  • Accurate time recording and billing, with strong attention to detail
  • Compliance with legal aid and CCMS requirements (where applicable)
  • Supporting business development and networking activity to help grow the department

Requirements (Skills, Experience & Qualifications)

To be considered, you should have:
  • Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with a current practising certificate
  • 1+ year PQE handling Court of Protection matters (or closely related work)
  • Strong working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and relevant procedure
  • Confidence working with vulnerable clients and families with empathy and professionalism
  • Excellent drafting and communication skills (clear, accurate, and client-friendly)
  • Strong organisation and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment
  • Competence with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel as a minimum)
Desirable (not essential):
  • Legal aid / CCMS experience
  • Experience from a related background such as Private Client, Mental Health, or Community Care

Salary, Level & Progression

This opportunity is open to different levels, depending on experience:
  • NQ–2 years PQE: £35,000–£50,000
  • 3–7 years PQE: £50,000–£75,000
There is clear scope to progress through the team as your technical expertise and confidence grows, with increasing responsibility, client exposure, and the opportunity to support junior development.

Location & Working Arrangement

  • Location: London
  • Working pattern: Hybrid working available (details to be confirmed based on team needs and level)
