Court of Protection Solicitor (Health & Welfare)
Salary: £35,000–£75,000 + Hybrid Working

Our client is a well-established London law firm with a strong reputation for sensitive, high-standard work for vulnerable clients and their families, and they’re looking to strengthen their Court of Protection offering with an additional hire.

The Role: Court of Protection (Health & Welfare)
You’ll manage a varied Court of Protection caseload, with a focus on Health & Welfare matters, and play a key role in progressing files efficiently and compliantly.
Typical work will include:
- Mental Capacity Act 2005 applications including s.16, s.21A, and deputyship matters
- Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) challenges
- Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA) and Enduring Powers of Attorney (EPA) matters
- Drafting and preparing applications, witness statements, and supporting court documents
- Liaising with key stakeholders including the Official Solicitor, medical professionals, social services, and family members
- Attending hearings, mediations, and client meetings as required
Team & Department Contribution
This role suits someone who enjoys being part of a team and contributing beyond their own files.
You’ll also be involved in:
- Supervising and supporting paralegals, trainees, and junior colleagues (where appropriate to level)
- Accurate time recording and billing, with strong attention to detail
- Compliance with legal aid and CCMS requirements (where applicable)
- Supporting business development and networking activity to help grow the department
Requirements (Skills, Experience & Qualifications)
To be considered, you should have:
- Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales) with a current practising certificate
- 1+ year PQE handling Court of Protection matters (or closely related work)
- Strong working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and relevant procedure
- Confidence working with vulnerable clients and families with empathy and professionalism
- Excellent drafting and communication skills (clear, accurate, and client-friendly)
- Strong organisation and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment
- Competence with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel as a minimum)
Desirable (not essential):
- Legal aid / CCMS experience
- Experience from a related background such as Private Client, Mental Health, or Community Care
Salary, Level & Progression
This opportunity is open to different levels, depending on experience:
- NQ–2 years PQE: £35,000–£50,000
- 3–7 years PQE: £50,000–£75,000
There is clear scope to progress through the team as your technical expertise and confidence grows, with increasing responsibility, client exposure, and the opportunity to support junior development.
