Job Description

Domestic Abuse Paralegal

Salary: £26,000–£35,000 + Hybrid Working

Location: London

Trauma-informed, meaningful legal work

If you’re a paralegal who wants your work to genuinely matter, this is a rare opportunity to join a specialist team supporting survivors of domestic abuse through urgent and sensitive family law proceedings. Our client is a well-established London law firm with a strong reputation for compassionate, high-quality legal aid work, and they are looking to add a Domestic Abuse Paralegal to their team.

You’ll handle protective injunction matters from instruction through to outcome, working in a supportive environment where care, professionalism, and doing the right thing are non-negotiable.

The Role: Protective Injunctions & Family Proceedings

You’ll manage a caseload focused on urgent protective injunctions and related family matters, ensuring clients are supported throughout the process.
Key responsibilities will include:
  • Taking initial instructions sensitively, using a trauma-informed approach
  • Drafting urgent applications including Non-Molestation Orders and Occupation Orders
  • Preparing statements, chronologies, and supporting evidence in line with court and legal aid requirements
  • Liaising with courts, police, support workers, and interpreters as required
  • Completing Legal Aid applications, including emergency funding, accurately and on time
  • Maintaining files and ensuring compliance with internal procedures and regulatory standards
  • Attending hearings where required (as support and/or note-taker)
  • Providing clear client updates and maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding at all times
  • Supporting solicitors with correspondence, case progression, and wider administrative tasks

What Our Client Is Looking For (Experience & Skills)

To be considered, you should have:
  • law degree (LLB) or equivalent legal qualification
  • 12+ months’ UK family law experience (legal aid exposure strongly preferred)
  • Experience handling domestic abuse matters, ideally including protective injunctions
  • Confidence managing your own caseload (or a strong track record running files with supervision)
  • Working knowledge of Legal Aid Agency processes and CCMS
  • Strong drafting skills (statements, applications, chronologies) and excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to work calmly under pressure in urgent, sensitive situations
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and case management systems
  • A clear commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion

Career Development & Progression

This role offers genuine progression for someone who wants to deepen their expertise in domestic abuse and legal aid work. You’ll gain hands-on experience with urgent applications, evidence preparation, and court processes, with support from a specialist team and exposure that will strengthen your long-term career prospects in family law.

Location & Working Arrangement

  • Location: London
  • Working pattern: Hybrid working available (details to be confirmed based on team requirements)

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: £26,000–£35,000 (dependent on experience)
In addition to salary and hybrid working, you can expect a comprehensive benefits package, typically including holiday allowance, pension, and additional firm benefits. Full details will be shared during the process.
