Job Description

Senior Accountant

Location: Harrogate Area

Salary: £40,000 – £48,000 + Benefits

Are you an ambitious Accountant looking for more than just routine compliance? Do you want to take true ownership of a client portfolio while paving a clear path toward Assistant Manager and Manager level? Our client is a highly respected, forward-thinking professional services group with a strong, growing footprint across Yorkshire. Due to ongoing growth, they are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join their Harrogate area team and deliver exceptional accounts, tax, and advisory services to a thriving client base.

The Opportunity

This role offers an ideal blend of portfolio management, high-touch client advisory, and leadership development. You will act as the trusted key contact for a diverse mix of owner-managed businesses, while stepping up to mentor junior team members and review technical work. Operating within a supportive practice that actively invests in internal progression, this is a prime platform for a practice professional seeking autonomy, varied technical work, and structured long-term development.

Key Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Qualifications & Experience: ACA/ACCA qualified (or near finalist) with a strong foundation of 4–6 years in UK accountancy practice. Ideally 1+ years PQE.

  • Portfolio Management: Proven track record of independently managing, preparing, and reviewing statutory accounts, management reporting packs, personal/partnership tax returns, and VAT submissions.

  • Technical Proficiency: Strong grasp of UK GAAP and FRS 102, alongside practical experience with cloud and desktop accounting software such as IRIS, Xero, Sage, or QuickBooks.

  • Advisory & Mentorship: Experienced in supporting business owners with planning and forecasting, while providing guidance, training, and review support to junior staff.

Package & Benefits

  • Base Salary: £40,000 – £48,000 dependent on experience, plus regular salary reviews and performance bonuses.

  • Work-Life Balance: 37.5-hour working week with flexible working options structured around core business hours.

  • Time Off & Perks: 33 days annual leave (including Bank Holidays), salary sacrifice pension scheme, paid professional membership fees, and free on-site parking.

  • Progression & Culture: Defined pathways to Assistant Manager and Manager roles, funded CPD, employee referral incentives, regular social events, and a genuinely collaborative environment.
