Family Lawyer
Location: Middlesbrough
Salary: £45,000 to £60,000 (depending on experience)
Experience: Ideally 5+ years’ PQE (flexible for the right person)

This role offers a strong mix of legally aided work (including care and domestic abuse matters) alongside scope for private family work, depending on your background and interests.

The Middlesbrough office is newly established with exciting growth plans, and has recently secured a legal aid contract covering legally aided private law, domestic abuse and care work in the local area.
The Opportunity
In this role you will take ownership of a varied family caseload and play a key part in supporting and developing the local family offering.
- Run your own caseload of family matters from initial instruction through to conclusion
- Handle legally aided work including care proceedings, domestic abuse matters and child arrangements
- Manage legal aid applications where appropriate
- Draft statements, applications and other court documents
- Attend court and undertake advocacy where required (and where you have experience)
- Deal with new client enquiries and maintain excellent client care standards
- Work closely with colleagues to support the continued growth of the Middlesbrough office
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone organised, methodical and collaborative, with the confidence to manage deadlines and deliver a high standard of client service.
Essential
- Qualified Solicitor or Legal Executive (or equivalent) in England and Wales
- Family law experience with the ability to manage matters independently
- Strong drafting skills and attention to detail
- Confident communication skills with clients and other parties
- Able to work efficiently under pressure and meet deadlines
- Strong IT skills and willingness to learn new systems
- Team-focused approach with the ability to use initiative
Desirable
- Experience in legal aid family work (care, domestic abuse, child arrangements)
- Law Society Children Panel membership (or working towards)
- Regular advocacy experience
- Experience in private family work (divorce, separation, finances, private children matters)
