Job Description

Corporate Tax Director

Salary: £90,000 to £120,000 + bonus

Location: Cardiff (hybrid)

Lead a high-value portfolio and shape a growing tax practice

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an accomplished Corporate Tax professional who wants genuine influence, not just a title. Our client is a large, well-established UK accountancy practice with a strong national presence and a broad SME and mid-market client base. You’ll take the lead on major client relationships, provide strategic tax advice, and play a visible role in driving growth across the wider firm.

If you enjoy combining technical excellence with commercial thinking and people leadership, this role offers a platform to build a strong regional profile, develop a high-performing team, and progress towards Partner (where applicable) or wider leadership responsibilities.

The Role: Strategic leadership and client ownership

As Corporate Tax Director, you will:
  • Lead and develop key client relationships, acting as a trusted adviser on complex corporate tax matters
  • Take ownership of a significant client portfolio, with responsibility for quality, delivery, and fee growth
  • Provide high-level advice across areas such as corporate tax compliance and advisory, group structuring, transactions, reorganisations, and tax risk management
  • Oversee engagement delivery, ensuring technical quality, governance, and compliance with UK tax regulations
  • Drive cross-service collaboration, spotting opportunities beyond tax and delivering a joined-up client service
  • Contribute to regional and departmental strategy, including workflow planning, resourcing, and service development

Business Development: Grow the portfolio and the firm’s profile

A key part of the role is helping the practice grow. You will:
  • Build and leverage an external network to generate new work and referrals
  • Lead proposals and pitches, clearly articulating value and commercial outcomes
  • Identify service improvements and support digital transformation initiatives that improve delivery and client experience
  • Support pricing strategy and ensure strong commercial discipline across engagements

Leadership: Develop people and raise standards

You will be expected to lead from the front by:
  • Mentoring and developing senior team members, with clear focus on career pathways and progression
  • Creating a positive, high-performance culture with strong standards and accountability
  • Supporting recruitment, workforce planning, and capability building within the tax team
  • Promoting quality control and continuous improvement, reducing errors and improving consistency

What our client is looking for

To be successful, you’ll typically have:
  • 10+ years’ UK corporate tax experience gained within a UK accountancy practice (or equivalent advisory environment)
  • Proven track record operating at Director level (or a Senior Manager ready to step up with clear evidence of leadership and portfolio responsibility)
  • Strong experience across:
    • Corporate tax compliance and advisory for UK companies and groups
    • Reviewing complex computations and returns, and leading delivery teams
    • Advising on structuring, reorganisations, transactions, and tax risk
    • Managing senior stakeholders and delivering commercially sound advice
  • Demonstrable ability to drive fee growth, win work, and cross-sell effectively
  • Strong leadership capability: developing people, setting standards, and managing performance where needed

Qualifications

You will hold (or be qualified by experience with strong supporting evidence):
  • CTA / ATT / ACA / ACCA / CA (or equivalent)

Location & working arrangement

  • Cardiff (hybrid working available)
  • You should be able to attend the Cardiff office as required for leadership visibility, team collaboration, and client needs.

Salary & benefits

Salary guide: £90,000 to £120,000 depending on experience, portfolio size, and leadership scope, plus bonus.
A comprehensive benefits package is available and typically includes:
  • Performance-related bonus
  • Hybrid working and flexible approach to hours
  • Enhanced holiday allowance (often with buy/sell options)
  • Pension scheme
  • Private medical cover
  • Life assurance
  • Professional subscription fees paid and strong CPD support
  • Leadership development and a clear pathway to wider regional / national leadership (and Partner track where applicable)
